I know now why they kiss the soil of the Homeland

I know now why they kiss the soil of the Homeland

The refugee,
The homeless,
The stateless,
The eternal vagabond,
The rootless tree,
The Soulless body,
The homeless heart,

Living in the borders of relentless longing,
in makeshift shelters of non-belonging,
Collecting shame laced broken words
in a foreign tongue
With a mouth heavy
with the razor burns of swallowed pride,
Building a new life
with soulless, homeless hands.

All the while languishing
with relentless longing
For even a fragment
of the battered rubble
of Home.
